Got mine out at 17, but they told me a year or two earlier that I was going to need mine out. When you go to the dentist and get x-rays, they can tell whether your going to be able to accommodate them fairly early before you even get them.
Not only do you have to be able to fit them in your mouth, but they gotta come in straight. I've know a bunch of people that had them coming in sideways out there gums. It's all genetics, really. I think my mouth was big enough, but the fact that when they come in, they move around your teeth a little bit was the problem. I had already gotten my braces off, and I'm not wearing those again.
