I apologize in advance if I somehow managed to miss a similar topic despite using the search function and keywords such as "username", "user name", and "handle".

To phrase my question differently, how did you come up with the user name you've chosen to use on this forum?

Anyone who's played The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past should recognize where my user name is derived from. For those who've had the misfortune of not playing said game, I explain: there's an attainable item called the "Book of Medora". I like the way it sounds, and I like the implication of an interesting story of mythology or legend that comes with the name, like other items or places in the game, such as the "Temple of Hera".

My other favorite user name to use at forums is "Hyperion", and that is an even more interesting story. After seeing that user name in use at the phpBB.com support forum, I decided to "steal" it for use at forums I go to. It wasn't until weeks later I realized that "Hyperion" is a character in Greek mythology, a subject of significant interest to me. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, "Hyperion" is "a Titan and the father of Eos, Selene, and Helios".

Even later, after doing more research on the character on the Internet, I found an article with the following information: "Hyperion" was sometimes referred to as the "God of observation", as it was said that, merely be observing things in the sky, he made them so. He was also referred to as the "Sun Titan", as it was said that he was the Sun God before him and the other Titans were overthrown by the Olympians, another pantheon of gods, a pantheon people today are more familiar with.

I used to play a lot of online PC games, including Call of Duty. The name Danger stuck with me one day when I was playing under some other alias (can't really think of it right now) and there were several people screaming "Danger Will Robinson!", quoting the movie who's name escapes me right now.

Danger kind of stuck, and I've used it ever since.

Trevor for my first name, L for my last name initial, and 337 for a number, namely L337 for leet or 1337....oh yea Trevor is just my internet name cus it would probably keep me away from identity theft...I guess the reason why I chose Trevor was because I once had a dog named Trevor...

Obdurate was word of the day on dictionary.com and it sounds cool, as anti-climatic as that is. I've only seen the word used, I think, twice in my whole life as well. It's one of my favourite words, along with labyrinth.

well i had just got out of a long relationship downloaded aol for the chatrooms and to talk to the ladies in my area... (no longer use aol, just needed it at the time) anyhow... was trying to come up with a username... i live in knoxville hence knox, i love pc and alot of gamers and my friends call a pc their box... used to have the number 21 following my tag infact my aim screenname is knoxbox21 and that was for the age i was at the time... my yahoo one, is knoxbox23 and 23 was the age i was when i got it.. anyways i just really liked the name... years later, i ended up buying a scion xb and as you know it looks like a box so the nickname just stuck... so i guess you can say my name is one of those classis aol screennames lol.

oh i also go by rhoades, which is my lastname... when i was in highschool my friends called me this.. so i mostly use it when playing first person miltiary style shooter games cause usually you are refered to by your last name in the military... so i often use it as my callsign.

i've had lots of uberl337 names over the years... and knoxbox was truely only thing i originall came up with so i like it... never seen it used anywhere... so if you see the name i'd say 98% of the time its going to be me, i think someone theif'd it from me cause it was already taken on gmail... and a few other things... i tend to email the people or pm them and harrass them over it LOL.

other names i've used..

brokenATM = used this on counter-strike alot... and it was due to a joke i heard once... that went something like banker: with this atm card you can goto any atm machine and get money out... a few weeks the man returned to the bank and said my card is just not working... the banker: pulls up the account chuckles slightly to himself and reply's you have to put money in the account before you can take any out.

zerocool_031183 vpchatroom name... stole it from the movie "hackers" lol and added my birthday to the end of it...
obsolete another virtual places chat room name...that i later shortened to obs...
just.a.punk another vpchat name... i was a teenager and some older gentlemen probably in his 40's or 50's said i was "just a punk" and so i took that as my name for awhile.
i also used l2yan which is Ryan, just used lowercase l and number 2 to create the R. that was when i got bored with all the L337 names hehe.

oh my friend used to use the name bulletsponge on counterstrike, because 90% of the time i'd send him in ahead of me as my human shield while i took the enemy out.

well i have used no indieover in every forum. so that i will have not trouble to remember which username to type on the forum.

i use mine because i sleep eat and breath guitar herop or ne thing with the concept....so yeah...plus my sn is MrGuitarHer0 and the o on hero is a zero so im me telling me your from PTF

Ich Bin is German for "I am" ("Ich bin ein Berliner.") Butler is just what I'm called.

Also, I didn't get the Zelda reference until you explained it. But I see it now.

"Ich Bin Ein Berliner" means "I am a jelly donut"

Yea, because in Berlin there was a donut called the Berliner at the time. Most of the German's knew what he meant though.
