Default Re: Steele et al. v. PayPal, Inc. et al.

I just got this email & in researching it, I ran across this site. It absolutely looks like a Phishing attempt. The website they refer you to has a site security certificate created by them. Not a legitimate third party like verisign. I have been able to claim several class actions in my lifetime & have always been contacted directly by the law firm handling it, always by postal service. It is so easy to make this stuff up that no legitimate organization would send it by email.
It never takes more than about 2 seconds to check with the American BAR association to find out if a law firm is legit. The Class Action also always sends a way to contact them directly, usually by phone. Generally the phone # & address can be verified in the BAR's public directory for easy verification.
The "steelesettlement" site lists the following law firm as the Class Council:

Marina Trubitsky & Associates, PLLC
attn: Marina Trubitsky
c/o PayPal/Steele Class Action Settlement
11 Broadway, Suite 861
New York, NY 10004

This law firm is not listed in the New York, NY public listings on the BAR association's website. What law firm wouldn't list themselves on that site??? I'm thinking this firm just doesn't exist.

It's dangerous for a phisher to use the post office for something like this because it falls under mail fraud laws which have had 200+ years to close loopholes. Email laws are much easier to circumvent because they're so new & incomplete.

I sent an email to the US Secret Service computer crimes division asking for more information about this email. Identity Theft falls under their jurisdiction & hopefully they'll reply to my question. Cross your fingers. I'll post any information they send.

Thank you, Velocitaco - I hope you find something out!

I will be calling the Judge listed in the apparent court documents for information on this as well, but since today is technically a holiday, I have to wait until tomorrow.

I never received a response from PayPal regarding this E-Mail, either.

We wish to pursue the truth no matter where it leads. But to find the truth, we need imagination and skepticism both. We will not be afraid to speculate, but we will be careful to distinguish speculation from fact. The cosmos is full beyond measure of elegant truths; of exquisite interrelationships; of the awesome machinery of nature.

I just came across this forum while searching to see if this lawsuite is the real deal. As a small bunsiess owner I use Paypal / Ebay regularly so it got my attention and the careful approach by those of you who are looking for the truth like me convinced me to join in.

The one bit I can add to the discussion is this: I intentionally use different email accounts for Ebay and Paypal to quickly sort out the spoofs regarding Paypal that come to the email associated with my Ebay account. I recieved this "notice" via the email account I use for Paypal, so if it is a spoof those who are behind it may have an inside asssitant. Then again, it might be just a random phishing email.

That said, I've be part of a few real class actions and I was always notified by U.S. mail, so this whole thing is kind of phishy.... (sorry).

Re: Steele et al. v. PayPal, Inc. et al.

I too received this email. To make it simple for everyone reading my post, this is what I did:

Went to paypal home page and in the upper right hand corner I entered 'Steele' in the search box.

The results, mid-page a clickable link to 'Legal Agreement - PayPal'.

Scroll to the bottom and follow the link to Steele Settlement website.

There you have it.

Cheers,
Diana

First I like to welcome you to PTF!

Try checking both Temporary and Temp Folders for cookies.Delete them if you can.
Sometimes the site might be down.I usually reboot and reconnect and the site opens.Try opening it using another browser.
Perhaps Mr. Butler or Mr.Kovich(site moderators) can help out. They know alot about troubleshooting.
If you do reach the site...

At the bottom of the Pay Pal page are "Links".
There you should see "About us", "Jobs" and so forth.Check for " Contact Us ".Then go from there.
