Default nova scotia, canada for vacation.

The last week of August my family will be taking a trip to N.S. Canada for vacation. My dad and I will be riding the motorcycles, my wife might be riding passenger on my bike for part of the way... My mom will be driving my dads 06 hhr pulling our new 6x10 trailer, in case weather doesn't permit us to ride we can load them up and continue on.

What i am really curious about is to whether or not you guys have ever been to N.S. or some state along the way... if so what did you see, would it be something you would recommend others to see... We are going to be driving straight there due to only having 11 days for vacation... we estimate it to take about 2 to 3 days to get there... we had originally planned to stop by new york and spend a day, and niagra falls... but time isn't going to permit us to stay a full day in NYC so we are passing that up...

So if you have anything you think we should definitely stop and check out please let me know.

I just bought a Cannon Powershot G9 12.1 mega pixel 6x optical zoom for this strip... its a once in a lifetime trip for us. I've never been outside the US so im extremely excited...

Also, my dad and I want to post our trip from day to day what we did and pictures... any trip website you recommend or blog pages you recommend that maybe specialize in travel blogging? maybe something were if we didn't have net access at the hotel we could send via mobile phone?

thanks in advance
Ryan

Yeah. Do you know how long the wait for passports are now? A few months ago they were really far behind with big delays, so I'm interested if they have caught up.

So it turns out I'm the best person to answer this (along with Justin.Robar but he doesn't post anymore). This thread surprised the hell out of me because Nova Scotia wasn't a place that was talked about a lot but now with people like Ellen Page making it big and stuff I even saw it mentioned on Jay Leno. And now more importantly, PTF!

I actually have lived in NS for 22 years but am moving away in almost exactly a week to go to Ontario.

It has the ocean. If you're an ocean person then it's great. Some nice beaches and all, as well. I like the ocean and even the beaches but I can't say I'm an ocean or beach guy. The province also has some really dead places (like, my town has a population of like 7000 or 8000 and that's high compared to some places like Mahone Bay which as of 2001 had a population of 991), but has some decent tourist places as well.

Here are some links on wikipedia to kinda help you out.
Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lunenburg, Nova Scotia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And our big capital:
City of Halifax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Honestly, we're a poor province but there are some sights here. Peggy's Cove is where some plane crashed, decently nice area though. Since you're only visiting I think it'll be nice but I got the love/hate thing with the province cuz there's not a lot of opportunity right now. But yeah, like I said, there are some really nice things to see here.

I hope this helps and if I think of more then I'll let you know.

Oh we get some pretty extreme temperatures up here but since it's August then it's just gonna be warm so I guess that's not an issue.

We're a bilingual country but you're not gonna have any issues in NS with other languages. We're mostly english here. Like I know some french but it isn't what it used to be. The province of Quebec is where you'd run into most of the french (as a primary language and such).

As for jackets... in August... you won't need much of anything unless you're one of those people who get cold easy. Like I can go out with shorts and a t-shirt even at night during the summer because the temperature is just perfect, but take that with a grain of salt because I prefer a lil cold, I'm a spring/autumn guy. Still... I don't think you'll need much in the way of jackets but if you do, something light.

awesome, im warm naturally anyways at almost 300 lb's im sure i wouldnt' need anything but my wife and mother on the other hand probably a light jacket... now my dad and my wife and my morocycle jackets are 3 in one... they have heavey (removable) inner linner and they also have zippers you can upzip for vents so its more like a windbreaker at that point... we will naturally be wearing this while riding so im sure that will do the trick for us if we needed a jacket...

my mom loves lighthouses... are there some lighthouses that are open to public viewing / touring?
