Surprise Jurassic Park-A real possibility?

Most people out there have seen the movie Jurassic Park or read the book. It’s an amazing story, the thought that science could bring back to life the creature of the past. Nothing stirs the imagination of millions like a good story about dinosaurs. These gigantic creatures bring about such a reaction of awe in the general public that they couldn’t help but make a good story if they were brought back from the dead.

So what makes the world as a whole so sure that the idea behind the story isn’t going on as we speak? Really, the idea isn’t as far fetched as it might seem. Cloning technology has been proven to work, though perhaps hasn’t been perfected just yet. The thought process in the story goes that DNA recovered from specimens could be used to basically clone copies of these prehistoric creatures. So we have technology at least close to what would be involved in this process, the likelihood is there are specimens with the requisite DNA, and yet we are supposed to believe that the idea hasn’t even been brought about? The thought that the plausibility is there and yet the scientific community avoids it due to ethical concerns is simply false.

The scientific community has proven that someone will throw all ethics to the side in the name of being the first to accomplish something. This has been proven over and over again, what’s to say that this type of situation isn’t occurring again as we speak. Some deserted island somewhere is harboring a small group of real life prehistoric monsters, awaiting the time when the find can be brought to light and the proper credit gained. Are we as a whole supposed to believe that such a situation isn’t even possible? I find that entire line of thought quite laughable, that we should believe that based solely on ethical issues that such a scientific possibility isn’t even being discussed among the community.

I certainly can’t say with any real certainty that anything like this is occurring, but at the same time I find it absurd to discount the possibility out of hand. Anything that can happen will happen. It’s a basic principle when it comes to science, because there will always be someone willing to push the envelope that next step. For that reason, perhaps that real answer is to discount nothing and question everything.

This seems like a slightly less drawn out version of what the Discovery Channel just did the other night. They had an hour long special about this and it never really resolved anything...just like the Discovery Channel's pretty good at.

We've started out with Dolly the Sheep, and I'm sure that one day we'll move on to Dinosaurs. Image the scientific opportunity!

i don't think that there is a possibility of that thing to become a reality. cause they are totally extinct now and man with its latest technology can really eradicate all those animals that will post as a threat to human survival.

I think it's possible. The DNA of anything is the same in every of our 60 trillion cells. Well, not exactly 60 trillion for everyone, but you get the idea. If we can find a preserved cell (I know we've found whole mammoths in tar down in Mexico and near Mexico) we can probably take its DNA and somehow turn that into the animal it was; resurrect it, if you will.

And that would probably be done by taking the nucleus of that cell, and placing it in a fertilized egg cell of a similar species, after removing the original nucleus. So to create a mammoth, an elephant cell would probably be used

EDIT: That's just my guess as to how it would be done, don't bitch at me about it.
