I just watched a documentary on the life of the Buddha, that was pretty interesting...the first religion without a God, also 500 years before Christ

the Buddha just teaches self mostly, through meditation, you have to defeat your internal demons to reach enlightenment


the ironic thing is, the Buddha, who was born with every luxury, tried to not become an iconic figure, but became one of the biggest in world history

we learned about him in 6th grade i believe TSL and butler were in that class but yeah he didnt want it to be a religeon he wanted it to be a way of life to achieve true happiness by not having too much or too little of anything...he seemed like a pretty cool person with some great ideas, and all of those fat statues of "the buddha" arent really what he looked like, considering he never had "too much" food, he was pretty skinny

yea, at one point he starved himself till he was hanging on by a thread and ate one grain a rice a day, until he realized that punishing the body doesn't solve the problem of human suffering...he lost alot of followers by abandoning his fast

Great Buddha! This is the reincarnation one, right?

not that i know of...i only watched about his life, i still have to read more about the actual religion, because i was under the impression that there was no God in the religion but my friend who's been reading about Buddhism tells me otherwise
