No, AIDS comes from the HIV virus and there are no cures for viruses. There could be some day, though.

Well, viruses are weird. They are really on the border of non-living and living. They have genetic material, but in order to live they need a host.

Yes, they can be destroyed/taken apart. You can't really call it killing them, because they aren't technically alive, as you said.

But we could find a means of making our cells inhospitable for HIV to take hold and spread (so far I think we just have a cocktail for slowing it) or find a way to destroy the viruses altogether and destroying any existing genetic material, without hurting the cell.

I hope we will be able to do that someday...

What might be great idea is spending several billion dollars a day toward AIDS and cancer research so that we can cure them. And maybe spend less toward the war in Iraq and...I don't know...start building more refineries and using our own country's oil. Some point out that if we relied on our own oil prices for consumers would be ridiculous, but I don't see why since we would go bankrupt if we charged too much for gas for our own citizens, putting everyone out of business.

Point being, if we can spend billions of dollars a day that we don't have and make our own dollar worthless, and if Bush can contemplate spending another three trillion, why can't the government fund these projects that could save lives and literally make Bush famous for being the president to decide to put money toward finding a cure and succeeding in it? He obviously needs some good publicity.

truth of the matter is there are no cures for viruses they all have to run their course... so i believe that if you have aids eventually, if you can survive the effects, it too will run its course and be over... micheal johnson is a good point when i say this... he has maintained a healthy life with aids for years... and the effects are minimal due to his lifestyle. now is he cured from aids or hiv no...

Actually, you can't cure it. You can keep it in its viral state. There's a difference between HIV+ and AIDS. I'm not too sure on the exact lingo or the exact process, but if you diet right with the right lifestyle, and of course take the correct medications, it can offset the process from HIV+ to AIDS for a very long time.

The problem with AIDS is HIV+ is hard to diagnose early since there are almost no symptoms. That's why you can live with HIV+ and not with AIDS. By the time you realize you have something, it's too late to prevent it from going to AIDS.

Well Bush is a war president. Plus, with war, the elite have a chance to get even more. Millions of dollars spent towards ANYTHING positive (research, building schools, low income housing, hospitals, fixing roads, etc) would be a bonus but the amount of money spent in those fields isn't what it should be. Instead, a lot of money is spent on ways to increase the cash flow of people who ALREADY HAVE MONEY. Even if they say it's going towards a good cause, there is the chance that they are masking their true intentions. Obviously the government has put money into positive issues but it hardly counts as positive when they take so much more.
