Jason (Michael Angarano), a teenage fan of Hong Kong kung fu films, is magically transported back in time to Ancient China where he must undertake a quest to free the fabled warrior Sun Wukong. The story begins with Jason dreaming about the Monkey King fighting a group of Jade Warriors atop the Five Element Mountains. Once he wakes up, he goes to Lu Yan, an antiques store owner, and purchases some Kung Fu DVDs. While searching through the DVDs he sees a room filled with Chinese antiques and then enters the room; where he finds an ancient staff. Lu Yan tells him that the staff is to be delivered to its rightful owner and then closes the door.
On his way back home, Jason is attacked by a group of bullies who force him to take them to the antique store so they can steal the money from the old man. Feeling betrayed Lu Yan tries to attack the thieves with the staff, but is shot. He tells Jason that he must deliver the staff to its rightful owner. Jason takes the staff and runs from the thieves. On top of a building, he is surrounded by the bullies and suddenly he is pulled off the roof by the staff and falls down on the ground.
When Jason wakes up he is transported back 500 years in China. There he is attacked by 3 Jade Warriors who try to take the staff away from him. He is helped by the Drunken Immortal (Jackie Chan). Later that night, they are seated in a restaurant; where the Drunken Immortal tells him the prophecy about a traveler who will free the Monkey King and destroy the rule of the Jade Warlord (Collin Chou). He then tells him a story of how the Monkey king was challenged to a fight by the Jade Warlord and was deceived and turned into stone. But before he was turned into stone completely, the Monkey King casts his staff away. The Drunken Master and Jason then get into a fight with the Jade Warriors and are later saved by a mysterious woman, who turns out to be the Orphaned Warrior, Golden Sparrow (Liu Yi Fei). Jason then asks The Drunken Immortal to teach him Kung Fu.
The Jade Warlord is notified by his men that they have seen the magical staff. The Jade Warlord then sends his bounty hunter to try to bring the staff back. When Jason wakes up in the morning he is attacked by a person dressed in white clothes, who takes the staff away. Jason, The Drunken Immortal, and Golden Sparrow follow the trail of the mysterious man. They reach upon a temple where the man is. There, The Drunken Immortal confronts The Silent Monk (Jet Li), who was the mysterious man. There they both fight for the staff. The Silent Monk later learns that the staff is meant for the traveler. The four head towards the Five Element Mountains in the quest of freeing The Monkey King and destroying the rule of the Jade Warlord.
my views on the movie...
@ the start of the movie i was a tad dissapointed i thought man this movie is going to be like this the whole way until jason woke up from his dream... once the movie got into i really began to enjoy it... the cgi was amazing. the ending i'd have to say is the best part.. you always like to see the nerdy kid beat up the bully and get the girl . sparrow was pretty hot wasn't she.. i don't typically go for the asian chicks but man.. wow.

p.s. anyone else think jackie chan might have made a better monkey king... just not so sure jet li does the funny guy stuff... hes typically in the serious roles it was hard for me to see him in a comical role. but then agian i also could not see jet li as the old man either... maybe they should dropped jet li all together and just had jackiechan play all the parts haha. nah the movie was good as it was.

answers to my own questions...

1. i did.
2. the ending when jason beat the bully and when he saw sparrow.
3. jackie chan drunken kung fu
4. i pretty much new he was the hair after the first scene when he split himself off with a hair.
5. i'd have to say in a serious fight jet li would probably win, but i'll still root for jackie chan cause he'd be like rocky balboa and come back more than likely and win.
6. yep... definately think he would have made a better jason.

Wow..that was quite a lot. For some reason, I heard that really fast in my head.

Anyway..I saw the movie too. I liked it, although I found the story kinda lame, with the kid and all. I disagree that Jackie Chan should've played the monkey king, I think he plays a drunken master much better. And Jet Li wasn't the old man either, that was Jackie Chan...the kid got him the elixir to be immortal and thats how he was able to keep the staff until it could be returned to the seeker.

i know this.. if you had slowed down and read my post at normal human speed you would have seen i said i couldn't view the old man as jet li i know he was jackie chan and i also know that the elixer is why he was still alive and also why the shot didn't kill him.

Oh, I thought you meant you thought Jet Li was the old man and shouldn't have been. Why would you say Jet Li shouldn't have played a part he didn't play? If I may ask.

oh dear lord... odviously if i thought jackie chan should have played the monkey king then that would have force jet li into the opposite role, and i just couldn't see jet li playing the old man...
