Spy Satellite Falls to Earth-A good time to mess with your children? I am sure we have all heard of the spy satellite that is falling to Earth. If not, here is the deal. The US military has confirmed that a spy satellite launched in December of 2006 lost power almost immediately and now can’t be controlled. Because of the size of the satellite Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart said that when the satellite breaks up, large pieces will still be intact and will hit the ground. The satellite carries a sophisticated and secret imaging sensor. The falling satellite looks like it is going to hit in the North American area in late February or early March. Now that the technical stuff is out of the way I can get to my story. I live in Dallas, TX and listen to a talk radio station while working during the day. It should be mentioned that this is not news talk or sports talk, but something more like shock jock, but not. Makes no sense I understand, but look it up if you want. The radio station is Live 105.3. Their mid day show is called Pugs and Kelly. I love the show because I can relate so much to Kelly. She has children between the ages of 8 and 10, and mine are between 6 and 8. That is not all that I relate to, but all that is needed to know for my story, which I promise I am getting to. Kelly does what a lot of parents do, but just don’t talk about. She teases her children for the pure and simple reason that they are gullible enough and she can. She has decided to tell her children of the falling satellite, and to push it one step further. She is telling her children that the government is requiring all children to wear long sleeve shirts and long pants. She is also telling them that they are required to wear a hard hat every time they go outside, even to school. The children asked why adults don’t have to wear this stuff when the falling satellite could just as easily hurt them and she tells them that the government can not tell the adults what to do, only the children. If this isn’t funny enough, Kelly has brought the entire thing to the radio and asked other parents to play along. And it is working!! Children all over the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex have been seen out wearing their hard hats in anticipation of the falling satellite. I think this is really funny in theory, but I am weak. I will not make my kids wear hard hats or any of the other stuff. My oldest daughter is extremely sensitive. She has walked into the room when her father and I are watching the doomsday programs on the discovery channel and she just about looses it. She is so worried that something is going to come along that is out of our control to fix and constantly asks us if those kinds of thing are real. We don’t lie and say no, we simply tell her that someday it could happen yes, but that it is nothing she needs to worry about now. And our six year olds just wouldn’t understand and it would cause unnecessary worry in them too. So I can’t play along, but I laugh every time Kelly brings the falling satellite up. Do you think this is harmful to children, or do you find it as funny as I do? |
