I don't think Vista is that bad. The main problem for most people, I suppose, is that it is new and different. It takes a little time to get used to. I do hate, though, not being able to use a lot of old programs/games and sometimes if I exit a program the way I am supposed to it says there was a problem causing the program to shut down and tires to find a solution. A lot of people are going back to XP, but I believe that in the future everything will be made for Vista. Until then, we'll have to stop using the old programs that don't work on Vista and try to find a way to make it work.

I've also heard from a lot of people that you need at least 1GB of RAM just to have Vista, but mine is a 512 MB (I'm hoping to upgrade it soon (I'll have to start a new thread concerning that)) and I still have 440 left with Vista on it.

1GB is "required" if you want to have any speed at all in Vista, 2GB is the "sweet spot". Personally, I have 4GB.

I'm comfortable with my speed.

Yeah, but it is still faster than xp because when it loads it like just pops up and its there xp you have to wait for everthing to load and what not.

i found that when my grandfather had 512MB, it was insanely slow, but he upgraded to 1.5GB and it's great. not very familiar with the in depth stuff though.

Vista is ok if you are a home user. FOr any business applications I would stick with XP. IMHO Vista is too "AUTOMATIC" It does everything for you. This limits user configurability and that is bad. Unlike in XP when I have a wireless connection configuration issue, I can just delete the connection and make a new one. Try that with Vista. Configuration settings tend to get "Stuck." By this I mean once they are set, there is no way to change them and even if there is the old settings seem to override the new ones. I HATE VISTA. IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REVAMPED.

I have 2.5gb ram in my computer. I can open up programs after programs with no lag at all. I remember with my old computer it would slow my computer down just by having more than one window open, but with my new computer it is 100% faster. Vista is a plus also.

The reason why having more RAM in Vista is so much more beneficial than having more RAM in XP is because of the way Vista uses the RAM. Open your task manager in Vista and click the performance tab. Under Physical Memory (MB), it should show a number VERY close to "0" for free (this takes a while from when you start up your computer, so if you just turned it on, don't bother looking yet). Vista is using so much RAM not because it is a memory hog like some people think, but because it is pre-loading all of your most commonly used applications and files so they load fast.

yeah I noticed that aj, when I open up a program the first time it takes longer than when I open it up again, not by a lot or anything but you can tell the difference.

Yeah that's why when I first log on I just let it do it's thing for a few minutes before doing anything. Then when I open a program it just comes right up.
