ok i just want to admit defeat... you guys have pursuaded me to firefox and i actually like it....

it used to be utter crap like 4 years ago... and opera only cool thing about it was the multiple windows... man i love almost everything about this... built in spell checker on anything that you type.. if you start typing on a page it automatically searches for the word...

I tried IE7 today, and I can't say that it is complete crap. I run firefox myself, and at one time, it was waaaay far ahead of IE. IE has caught up a lot though, and quite frankly, it looks a lot better. I didn't really try out much functionality or features though, it was a pretty basic test.

I still like firefox because it is open source, and so I can get a whole mess of awesome add-ons. It is also just easy to use, etc.

Actually, Internet Explorer is quite noticeably faster than firefox. I know because I'm a flash game developer, and my compadres do a lot of benchmarking with all of that. IE runs about 5-10 frames/sec faster with flash than firefox.

P.S. I ended my little "test" when IE crashed lol

Maybe for flash???

But it's pretty well known that FF is faster than IE overall.

Here is why that is kind of bogus:
1. THE TESTS WERE DONE BY APPLE--It is also well known that Apple creates specialized tests that are optimized for safari and deoptimized for Internet explorer. I read an article where they tested all of these programs on different sites, and guess what? Safari loaded the Apple page faster, and IE loaded the Microsoft page better. In addition, they also selected specific hardware to maximize their own computing needs. Because IE is the only browser that you can't run on a Mac, they had to make that look like it was the slowest.
2. Your running it on a Mac, and bootcamp runs differently than actual XP.
3. You can only run Safari on the Mac OS, which has less overhead than XP or Vista. You can't really compare Safari with the others.
4. What do you really need a browser to power through? HTML or Flash? "Yeah, I know, these html scripts are killing my firefox..."
5. Different browsers means different features. That version of firefox might have been stripped down, while the IE usually comes with stuff preinstalled.
6. You can look at speed, but safari is also somewhat glitchy. It doesn't always read pages how it should, which right now is probably its biggest downfall.
7. They used a next-Gen safari (beta) vs the current-Gen browsers.

This is probably the worst particular benchmark test you could have picked to represent those numbers.


I prefer firefox myself, but I'm playing devils advocate because your source is extremely biased, thought it is more or less true.

That was the first source in Google. I didn't look at it closely. There are many others...search for yourself. Firefox is faster overall. I can feel the difference between Firefox and IE in my everyday browsing.
