AMD cpus tend to run hotter than intel processors do, (thunderbird core amd cpus smoke if you take the heatsink off) and hell my laptop maxed out at 172F (AMD Turion64 Mk36) and kept running while I was playing Half Life 2 on it...

intel designs their processors to throttle their clock speeds down so they dont damage them selves, even when the heatsink falls off...but who mounts a heatsink in a position where it just *falls* off...

also my Pentium 4 desktop just seems to run faster than dads core 2 duo does....cept when im recording a tv show on my comp...then it just slows to a crawl cus its maxing out at 100% usage

well thanks for confirming that truth to me. so in that case amd tend to overheat. well are you saying that it is still safe to use amd cause there is a heat sink in a computer anyway. well for long use i think it is better to use intel .

what I dont see is how that pentium 4 in the video was running Q3 without the fan running...and had 84F when the cooler was removed...I cant idle at even 127F on my pentium 4 with the fan at 4500 rpm

And making a comparison of an Intel P4 to an AMD is stupid. It depends on what chip you use. P4's can range from super low (1.5 GHZ) to super high (3.a lot). It also depends on what other kinds of hardware you have in it. The old AMD's may have been better than Intel (I personally was always an Intel guy, though at the time, I was biased and didn't actually know anything). I've heard that the old AMD's were better than the old Intels because they had twice as many data pipelines. I think that a Pentium D probably beats the average AMD core, but anything above that and Intel usually takes the cake. I don't mind if you get an AMD, because unlike Apple, I don't think that they overcharge and produce sub-par hardware.

Intel chips handle heat better and consume less power. Aside from that, unless they are more durable with regards to moisture and salt, I don't see how that statement has any truth to it.

*shoot, Trevor beat me to it.

Awesome vid! Wow...notice only the AMDs smoke. Wow that one AMD was like 600+f degrees!

wow, you would think computers would use more energy than they do, and that they would cause fires, lol

they can cause fires...if its a thunderbird AMD cpu without a heatsink, and if it as a paper on the die....

Pentium 4 Speed range: 1.3Ghz - 3.8Ghz (Why didnt they make a 4.0Ghz?)

the AMDs smoked because AMD didnt design very much thermal protection in the processor. Once you mount a heatsink, it should stay there, not come off and let the cpu burn

VIA is awsome for taking heatsinks off....
