Why is it if you believe in evolution you believe theres no afterlife? I believe in evolution and I believe in an "afterlife" of sorts.

I guess you can believe in whatever you want, but because I'm a Christian, I don't believe in evolution.

Well that's fine, I guess. You don't have to believe in evolution. But when we debate, whether or not we respect such a boundary, we will defend our own points.

Because I'm pretty sure that most religions do not start people off as monkeys. I think that adaption is possible; that is, small changes in body physique in order to better suit the environment, such as metabolic changes according to temperature, humidity, toxic exposure, etc. I don't think that we can simply "evolve" into an entirely new species.

You don't just simply evolve. This isn't Pokemon. Over millions of years, those small bodily changes (like the changes in the beaks of Galapagos finches to be able to eat certain seeds) make a species into a whole new one. And so you're saying that if religion does not endorse such controversial ideas, you're automatically an atheist if you do believe in them. All this opposition to evolution means is that the people who wrote the Bible had no idea that evolution existed, so they figured we were all created by a god and wrote that down. Whether or not god was speaking through them is a matter of faith, and less relevant to what I'm saying. And Hatchet's afterlife has something to do with mushrooms, I think, so you really can't challenge his post like that. Not that you'd know that without going through every thread, but...

I'm an atheist and a firm believer in evolution (as a series of very tiny changes over millions of years). It is possible to believe in evolution and god at the same time. I was a christian as a kid and that's the only theory that made ever sense to me. God created the first living things and they evolved as science has shown. I think it's possible there is some sort of afterlife, though it's likely nothing anyone has ever imagined.

I like that perspective. Also, I would like to add, about your avatar, that I would eat my friends in an instant. Well, if they tasted good and I had some BBQ sauce.

@ Gillibean - I also like what you said, especially the afterlife. If there is one, how would anyone know what it is truly like. I'm not truly certain on an afterlife in beliefs at this point, but if there is one, I'm sure its nothing like anyone has thought.

Imagine going to heaven and being like, "Shit. Everyone was right."

And just for doubting what Heaven's like, they send you down to hell just as a slap in the fact after your first hour in Heaven.
