There has been a lot of talk on the forums lately having to do with web browsers. It’s quite clear that the days of Microsoft Internet Explorer are over. There are countless alternatives to IE that are faster, more stable, and more customizable. But the question is — what one are you using? There’s the customizable Mozilla Firefox, the original Opera, the speedy Apple Safari, and many more. The most popular browser amongst the members of PTF is Mozilla Firefox, made clear by the many posts. Take a look at the excerpts below, and be sure to vote in the poll of the week! There’s a thread about the upcoming Internet Explorer 8, Firefox add-ons, and Opera 9. (Register on the forums so that you can participate in the poll and discussion!) Also, here are the browser stats for the PTF forum for the month of March, 2008. Exact numbers are backed out, but the percents are there.

PTF Browser Stats - March ‘08

I hate IE. It’s so slow, it’s full of crap. Mozilla is lightweight, and has tons of add-ons that you can download. Safer, too.

okay i been surfing the net [with Firefox] it seems to get faster the more i surf… cause i guess is pre caching everything… links before i click them etc…hrm…

ErrorZilla is useful for those “cannot be displayed” pages.
FasterFox for speed.
IE Tab There are some (very few) sites (usually older ones) that don’t display correctly in firefox. Instead of waisting time switching into IE, just open it within an IE tab in Firefox.

The only main thing that I like about Opera is the start up screen, you can put all your sites right there, and thrn you just click them instead of having to type in the adress. I wish firefox had something like that that they could offer.

The PTF Movie Club’s movie of the month* for March is The Godfather. This would be an excellent opportunity for members and non-members alike who do not normally participate in this sort of discussion to join in. PTF is a very welcoming community, so don’t be shy!

If you enjoy movies, I strongly urge you to take a look at our movie club. You’ll be very surprised at the in-depth discussion that we have. Below are some excerpts from this month’s discussion thread.

Carlo might not have been eating an orange, but I thought it was pretty neat that they would have Carlo wearing an orange suit.

I also noticed that the children were very rarely in the arms of the men. This portrayal kind of resembles that the Mafia men are only there for business, and the women are there for…

Remember at the beginning when the guy comes in begging him to take revenge on the young men who beat his daughter? Don Vito was insulted by his way of asking him to do it, not giving him respect as a friend and only demanding it be done with the incentive of money. I noticed that Don Vito is all about respect, while Michael never…

He denounces Satan and all his works, while his men are committing murders for him. I think this just shows that despite what Michael truly wanted, to be head of the family, he must…

Though he does certainly command respect through fear there’s also a certain vulnerability about his character that he…

Another seen that choke me up was Don Vito playing with his grandson. He seemed like such a child himself. It further proved how important family is and it also put some light and more depth into…

In short: Based on their observations and great understanding of the solar system, the Mayans predict that on December 21, 2012 the sun will change its polarity which will produce a great cosmic event that will move human kind into a new era, what they call “The Golden Age,” or in other words — IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD!

There have been many other prophecies like this before, yet none have come true. Do you think this one is real? Join in on the discussion at the forums.

Some quick excerpts…

I don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s probably going to be the same thing like the new millenium crap on new year’s.

Have you heard of Nostradamus’ 1999 prophecy? That was based on the fact that he got many predicted things right. But it didn’t happen. There are many others, as well. The fact is that we will never know when the end will be until it happens.

The big question, PC users. Which is better? Good ol’ Intel, or bargained-priced AMD?

From experience building PCs, I personally prefer Intel. I currently have an Intel Core 2 Duo in my system. They seem to be more reliable, faster, handle heat better, etc. AMDs seem to be cheaply made. Visit the AMD vs. Intel thread and join in on the discussion. In one post, AMDs actually start smoking in a video!

Do you think that AMD processors are better or Intel processors? Here, we aren’t just talking about performance but quality, performance, price and everything. For me, I would choose AMD because it gives quite decent performance, maybe a little less than Intel but it is enough for normal users. The biggest advantage in AMD processors is that it is cheap, much cheaper when compared to Intel processors of same speed. I got myself 2.6 dual core AMD processor but if I had to go for Intel, I would not get more than 2.2 or 2.4.

And making a comparison of an Intel P4 to an AMD is stupid. It depends on what chip you use. P4’s can range from super low (1.5 GHZ) to super high (3.a lot). It also depends on what other kinds of hardware you have in it. The old AMD’s may have been better than Intel (I personally was always an Intel guy, though at the time, I was biased and didn’t actually know anything). I’ve heard that the old AMD’s were better than the old Intels because they had twice as many data pipelines. I think that a Pentium D probably beats the average AMD core, but anything above that and Intel usually takes the cake. I don’t mind if you get an AMD, because unlike Apple, I don’t think that they overcharge and produce sub-par hardware.

Many call abortion immoral and murder.  Others say it’s a necessary option for a woman.  Is abortion murder?  Why is is legal?

Are you pro-life?  Are you pro-choice?  Vote and join in on the abortion debate here: Abortion debate.

although some children up for adoption do not get adopted, it seems like a good choice to give them a chance. A fetus is alive. I mean, how sad are people when a newborn baby dies? Verry much so. Same if it dies a few months after birth. But if it dies before birth, at an even YOUNGER age, people don’t think twice about it.

The fact is, abortion is wrong and immoral. There are approx. 3700 abortions in the US alone EACH DAY. That’s 1.37 MILLION MURDERED BABIES IN THE US ALONE EVERY YEAR. Think about it…if abortion was illegal, we most probably would have cures for many more diseases than we do today. If you don’t care about that, we would have lower taxes, too (just think about it). I believe that there is no just abortion. If you are pregnant, you should have the child, no matter the risk. If you don’t want the baby, I’m fine with that. Just DON’T KILL IT! You can give it away autonomously at the steps of any fire or police station! There are literally PEOPLE WAITING IN LINE to adopt a child because they can’t have one for themselves.

Abortion in the first stages is ok, but after it starts to develop then it is wrong. When people wait months before they get one, that is wrong. if you cant support the kid, please get a abortion.

I noted that a lot of parents would rather die themselves than have the child and more than likely NOT KNOW where they are. Adoption in the U.S. is sometimes worse than death.

Some say that man evolved from single-celled organisms. Others believe that we were rather created by a higher power, God. Evolutionists commonly argue that we couldn’t have been created for a number of reasons. Creationists also have some great arguments to counter them.

Were we created by God? Or did we evolve over time? Join in on the debate: Evolution vs. Creation Debate.

1) Evolution has NEVER been observed. 2) There are NO transitional fossils. 3) If the THEORY of evolution is true, every one of us is on this Earth my accident; a random chance (i.e. your life doesn’t matter).

So you live you’re life wholly based on what some book written 2500 years ago tells you to? I bet you don’t even completely follow all the teachings of it but you’re preaching thats the only correct way to live? I don’t care if people wanna run around and live like that, but don’t tell me to believe what it says just because IT says it.

I try to follow the Bible word for word, but thats not humanly possible, we as humans are sinners, we can’t change that but we can change how we live our lives.(by reading and following the Bible the best we can.)
