PTF is having a referral contest with a $20 cash prize, provided by our very own moderator, Danger.  Refer as many people as you can to PTF from March 21 - April 21 and you could win the prize!  See the original thread.

Details from the original thread:

The point is pretty simple. Refer as many members as you can to the site and earn yourself a pretty spectacular prize. What’s the prize you ask? You’ll have to finish reading the rest of this post to find out. DON’T SKIP TO THE BOTTOM, IT RUINS IT.

Rules are as follows:

1 - Under no circumstances will you spam on other forums, or websites for that matter. It’s considered rude, not allowed here (so that would be hypocritical), and frankly, the staff doesn’t want to deal with people complaining about it to us.

2 - Each referral must post at least 10 posts to count. What’s a new member to us if they don’t post?

3 - I will be keeping track of the number of referrals. I will have them written down, so there will be no discrepancy over who got how many referrals.

4 - If someone joins, but doesn’t put you as the person that referred you here, tough luck for you. Make sure you include the your forum name wherever you advertise, so that they know what name to put down when they register.

5 - The contest will run for one month. I’m not too exactly sure on the date of when it will start, so take advantage and come up with ways to find new members. It will be in the near future, I just need some time to collect the necessary data (aka amount of referrals already for each member).

6 - *Sigh* The prize. What you guys have been waiting for. The prize is a nice $20 cash prize. If you make an exceptional effort and have an incredible amount of new members, there might be a BONUS. Who knows? Work for it!

7 - The money will be sent via Paypal or I can mail you the cash via Snail Mail. Either way I’m giving away $20, so if you chose Snail Mail and it gets lost in the mail, I will not be responsible for re-sending cash. Sorry to say, but not everyone out here is trustworthy.

Again, I personally am giving away the $20 for the benefit of getting this site more active and more enjoyable. If I hear about any cheating of any kind (aka all your referrals have locations near you, and they all have the minimum ten posts, I can tell you just had your friends sign up to post 10 times and then they leave). Please do not encourage members to post nonsensical posts just so they have 10 posts. That would honestly just defeat the whole purpose of this contest. I’m giving away money in hopes this will help the community, not hurt it.

PTF forum member Danger was made Moderator in Training today, due mostly to his outstanding moderator application (oh, by the way, did I mention that we have moderator applications now?).  Thank you for your dedication to PTF, Danger!  It is much appreciated.  At that same time, moderator ComputerDude was promoted to Mega Moderator.  Congrats to the both of you!  May you serve PTF well.

As you all know, March Madness officially kicks off on March 20, which is this Thursday.  PTF is holding a contest, and the winner will receive their choice of a DVD prize from BestBuy!  To participate, you must have Microsoft Office Excel installed (for the bracket).  You can get more details in this thread.  Good luck to you all, and tell your friends!

There has been a lot of talk on the forums lately having to do with web browsers. It’s quite clear that the days of Microsoft Internet Explorer are over. There are countless alternatives to IE that are faster, more stable, and more customizable. But the question is — what one are you using? There’s the customizable Mozilla Firefox, the original Opera, the speedy Apple Safari, and many more. The most popular browser amongst the members of PTF is Mozilla Firefox, made clear by the many posts. Take a look at the excerpts below, and be sure to vote in the poll of the week! There’s a thread about the upcoming Internet Explorer 8, Firefox add-ons, and Opera 9. (Register on the forums so that you can participate in the poll and discussion!) Also, here are the browser stats for the PTF forum for the month of March, 2008. Exact numbers are backed out, but the percents are there.

PTF Browser Stats - March ‘08

I hate IE. It’s so slow, it’s full of crap. Mozilla is lightweight, and has tons of add-ons that you can download. Safer, too.

okay i been surfing the net [with Firefox] it seems to get faster the more i surf… cause i guess is pre caching everything… links before i click them etc…hrm…

ErrorZilla is useful for those “cannot be displayed” pages.
FasterFox for speed.
IE Tab There are some (very few) sites (usually older ones) that don’t display correctly in firefox. Instead of waisting time switching into IE, just open it within an IE tab in Firefox.

The only main thing that I like about Opera is the start up screen, you can put all your sites right there, and thrn you just click them instead of having to type in the adress. I wish firefox had something like that that they could offer.

The PTF Movie Club’s movie of the month* for March is The Godfather. This would be an excellent opportunity for members and non-members alike who do not normally participate in this sort of discussion to join in. PTF is a very welcoming community, so don’t be shy!

If you enjoy movies, I strongly urge you to take a look at our movie club. You’ll be very surprised at the in-depth discussion that we have. Below are some excerpts from this month’s discussion thread.

Carlo might not have been eating an orange, but I thought it was pretty neat that they would have Carlo wearing an orange suit.

I also noticed that the children were very rarely in the arms of the men. This portrayal kind of resembles that the Mafia men are only there for business, and the women are there for…

Remember at the beginning when the guy comes in begging him to take revenge on the young men who beat his daughter? Don Vito was insulted by his way of asking him to do it, not giving him respect as a friend and only demanding it be done with the incentive of money. I noticed that Don Vito is all about respect, while Michael never…

He denounces Satan and all his works, while his men are committing murders for him. I think this just shows that despite what Michael truly wanted, to be head of the family, he must…

Though he does certainly command respect through fear there’s also a certain vulnerability about his character that he…

Another seen that choke me up was Don Vito playing with his grandson. He seemed like such a child himself. It further proved how important family is and it also put some light and more depth into…

In short: Based on their observations and great understanding of the solar system, the Mayans predict that on December 21, 2012 the sun will change its polarity which will produce a great cosmic event that will move human kind into a new era, what they call “The Golden Age,” or in other words — IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD!

There have been many other prophecies like this before, yet none have come true. Do you think this one is real? Join in on the discussion at the forums.

Some quick excerpts…

I don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s probably going to be the same thing like the new millenium crap on new year’s.

Have you heard of Nostradamus’ 1999 prophecy? That was based on the fact that he got many predicted things right. But it didn’t happen. There are many others, as well. The fact is that we will never know when the end will be until it happens.

Thank you, Trevor and all the other active contributers of the PTF forums. We would also like to thank Ich_Bin_Butler, another active PTF member, for referring Trevor to PTF. Thank you!

My Hitachi Deathstar had its moment with me today…
